Trading Range:

Nifty opened flat at 12173 on Friday and made a high and low of 12258 and 12158 respectively before closing positive at 12246.

Review/Outlook:

For the day, support for Nifty exists at 12180 and 12100 levels whereas resistance for Nifty stands at 12300 and 12350 levels.

Bank Nifty opened gap up at 32142, made a high of 32445, low of 32056, and closed positive at 32412. For the day, support for Bank Nifty exists at 32200 and 32000 levels whereas resistance for Bank Nifty stands at 32550 and 32700 levels.

Amid concerns that Coal India Ltd (CIL) may fall short of its 660 million tonne (MT) production target for the current fiscal, the miner has planned to ramp up daily output to meet the goal, officials said. (BL).
Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd (APSEZ) has ventured into cold chain logistics business by acquiring a 40.25 per cent stake in Bengaluru-based Snowman Logistics for Rs 296 crore. The price of the deal was at Rs 44 per share, a 3.2 per cent premium to the market price of December 27, and a 12 per cent premium to the 60-day volume-weighted average price (VWAP). (ET).
A seven-member Group of Ministers (GoM) has been constituted to fast-track and oversee the implementation of the Rs.69,000 crore revival plan for state-owned telecom corporations BSNL and MTNL, sources said. (BL).
BEML Ltd, a defence public sector, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IRCON International Ltd to explore opportunities in the overseas market by synergising each other’s strengths for large infrastructure projects in the transportation sector. (BL).
Reliance Infrastructure on Friday said it has received Rs 94 crore from the Goa government against the arbitration award of Rs 350 crore. The company will request the Goa Government to pay the balance 75 per cent of the arbitral award against bank guarantee immediately, according to a recent Niti Aayog circular, RInfra said in a statement. HG Infra Engineering Ltd, a road construction company, has won a Rs 522.02 crore project for construction of a bypass in Rewari district of Haryana. (BS).

Bharti Airtel has increased its minimum recharge validity plan of Rs 23 to Rs 45, a 95% increase, a sign that the telco is not shying away from raising tariffs across spectrum to improve its revenue earned from customers and aim for healthier balance sheets. In a public notice on Sunday , the second largest telco announced that the new base price will be effective from December 29. This means that Airtel’s customers have to recharge for at least Rs 45 instead of Rs 23 for a validity period of 28 days and therefore the customers will have to shell out at least Rs 22 more per month. Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has extended until January 3 a deadline to accept bids from private players interested in operating its 64 small producing fields. (ET).
Reliance Capital on Sunday said the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has cancelled pledge enforcement of Reliance General Insurance Company Ltd's (RGICL) shares by Credit Suisse and Nippon India MF. Insurance regulator Irdai has directed IDBI Trusteeship Services not to give effect to any encumbrance or transfer or any change in the shareholding of RGICL, according to a BSE filing by Reliance Capital (RCAP). Pursuant to the Irdai direction, 100 per cent shareholding in RGICL stands restored to RCAP, it added. (BL).
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has successfully renovated and modernised one unit of the 3x60 MW Baira Siul Hydro Power in Himachal Pradesh. Notably, Baira Siul is the first hydro station of NHPC Ltd to have been taken up for comprehensive Renovation & Modernisation (R&M). Significantly, BHEL won the order for R&M of three units of the Baira Siul Hydro Power Station located in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, amidst stiff competitive bidding. R&M of the other two units is under various stages of execution. (BS).
ITD Cementation India has received a Letter of Intent for Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of Container Berth, Backup Yard Phase - I, Building and Utilities for Adani Yangon International Terminal Company Limited in Myanmar aggregating to $80mn. The award of this project is a testimony of our expertise and credentials in the execution and construction of Maritime Structures and Specialist Engineering in EPC Projects and is a step towards our endeavour to look for opportunities beyond Indian borders, the company said in the filing. Economy and Sector News
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the acquisition of shares in My Home Industries Private Ltd (My Home Industries) by My Home Constructions Private Ltd (MHCPL) and its affiliates. The proposed combination envisages acquisition of 50 per cent of shareholding of My Home Industries by MHCPL, Jupally Real Estate Developers Private Ltd (JREDPL) and Rameswar Rao Jupally. In more news, the continuous contraction in India’s exports is likely to stop next year, but the rate of growth will be subdued on account of the uncertain global trade situation due to rising protectionism. Foreign investors remained net buyers in December by investing Rs.2,613 crore in the domestic markets, mainly due to expectation of a revival in corporate earning, quantitative easing by the US Fed and infusion of funds by central banks globally. According to the depositories data, a net amount of Rs.6,301.96 crore was invested by foreign portfolio investors (FPI) into equities, while Rs.3,688.94 was pulled out of the debt segment. This resulted into a total net investment of Rs.2,613.02 crore between December 2-27. In more news, the country’s coal imports registered an increase of 4.4 per cent to 161.43 million tonnes (MT) in the April-November period of the ongoing fiscal. This comes amid the Centre exuding hope that imports of the fossil fuel would be contained to 235 MT this financial year. India had imported 154.56 MT of coal in April-November 2018, according to a report by mjunction services. (ET).
Increase in planting of crops, especially wheat, gram and jowar, has helped rabi acreage to go up by 6.6 per cent to 572 lakh hectares (lh) this week over the corresponding week last year. The total planted area under winter crop the same week last year was 536 lh, according to rabi sowing data released by the Agriculture Ministry on Friday. In more news, in an effort to curb the menace of fake invoices and tax evasion, the Finance Ministry has notified a new norm of limiting the input tax credit to 10 per cent in case of GST details mismatch. Marking a major upswing in fund raising activities, Indian companies garnered Rs 8.7 lakh crore from domestic and overseas markets in 2019 -- up 20 per cent from the previous year -- with debt instruments remaining the most preferred route for financing business needs. Fund raising scenario in 2020 will depend mainly on the state of the market, economic growth, US-China trade war and the Union budget, said V K Vijaykumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services. US markets turned in a mixed performance on the year's third-to-last session on Friday as US-China trade news remained firmly in focus. The Dow Jones Index closed at 28,645, up 23.87 points by 0.08%. The Standard & Poors 500 index closed at 3,240, up 0.11 points by 0.00%. The Nasdaq Composite Index closed at 9,007, down 15.77 points by 0.17%.

FTSE 100

UK markets finished higher on Friday but off their best levels of the session as investors around the world grew less fearful, amid increased optimism around US-China trade relations, lessening the US dollar's allure, which in turn boosted the likes of the pound. The FTSE 100 index closed at 7,645, up 12.66 points by 0.17%.

Precious Metals

Gold settled near a three-month high Friday, clinching its best weekly gain in four months, bolstered by investor caution about how far the record rally for stocks can extend into 2020.

Base Metals

Base metals prices were little changed at the close on Friday December 27, with a return to market post-Christmas doing little to inspire upward price movement on the London Metal Exchange.

Crude Oil

Crude oil prices edged higher Friday and finished a holiday-shortened week near a three-month peak, after a report showed a bigger-than-expected decline in U.S. stores of crude and its byproducts.
